How to Buy a Comforter - bed sheets, duvet cover, pillow cases, bedding in general

Well I'm in the market for a new comforter and I would like some suggestions and brands you guys might like and own. A entire new set including pillow cases and bed sheet would be nice.

As far as the sheets and so on, I always go for the highest count 100% cotton, sateen finish. When Linens and Things was going out of business, you could get 1000 count for about nothing. I also bought lots of Tommy Bahama bedding from Macy's Home Store before they stopped carrying the line.

As far as comforter, mine are the highest 100% goose down fill count I could find, from Macy's Home Store. I usually have to rotate between an ultra high count comforter and a lower fill count depending on the season. I live in a place where there is never snow, but where it does get a little cold at night in winters - if you live in an even warmer place, you will never need an ultra high fill count comforter.

You must get a duvet cover too if you are getting a comforter. Also there are these special antibacterial mattress covers as well as similar covers that encircle your comforter as well. These keep dust mites out.

But nowadays, you can get pretty good stuff from Costco too, although it is not going to be quite the same quality.

Would you recommend Ralph Lauren sets or are they all the same and must have high thread counts?

I need to buy one soon so I'll just do some more research and choose one online and go get it in Macy's Home Store. You could get goose feather pillows cheaper online then in the stores you know.

Macy's has some very nice Ralph Lauren bed sets. But overall cost with everything comes out to about 800-1000 dollars. But the quality is worth it because it'll last you a long time.
