  • PayPal mandatory in the UK? - rule may be changing!

The larger issue is that in the UK you must link a confirmed PayPal account to your EBAY in order to sell. Period.

In the U.S. you must attach either a confirmed PP, or have an approved merchant account.

In the United Kingdom, to sell on EBAY, for a while now the rule has been you must offer PayPal and only PayPal, however I believe that is changing and now in the UK it is similar to the U.S. - you can get approved for merchant account status in addition to offering PayPal (but, you must offer at least PayPal).

Can someone actually confirm what the Accepted Payment policy of eBay UK now is?

On the Help pages, they state: PayPal, ProPay Merchant and COD.

Is PayPal no longer mandatory now?

Is anyone able to sell now using the COD option without having or inputting a PayPal option?

On Ebay UK PayPal does appear to be mandatory:
          http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/sell-getstarted.html

eBay requires all sellers who list on eBay.co.uk to offer payments through PayPal, with the exception of listings in certain categories.

          http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policie...ts-policy.html

PayPal is not only convenient to use, but it also offers buyers and sellers protection assistance against fraud, chargebacks and theft of financial data.

Sometimes, PayPal is the only payment method offered on a listing, depending on the nature of the item.

If you want more information on buying and selling safely, see our Accepted Payments Policy

To become a an Ebay-UK seller you'll need to:Step 3) Offer PayPal or credit / debit cards as a payment method.
Sellers who register after January 17, 2007 are required to offer buyers either PayPal or the ability to pay with a credit card using an internet merchant account. PayPal lets you accept credit card and electronic cheque payments online from your buyers.
You will be asked to select a payment method when you list an item. You can sign up for PayPal before you list your first item for sale, or you can sign up when you list your first item. If you don’t have an Internet merchant account, you can sign up for ProPay to accept credit cards. To become a seller, you just need to:
          • Confirm your phone number (on eBay.co.uk) or verify your identity (on eBay.ie)”. If you are residing outside UK, you may use a Non-UK telephone or mobile number as long as you input them without the zero (0). You can follow the format (Dialing Code + Telephone or Mobile Number).
          • Specify an automatic payment method for paying your seller fees andeBay Money Back Guarantee reimbursements.
          • Make sure your Feedback Profile is public.
We also recommend you:Set up a seller account now

NOW, on the above page, is where it gets confusing and it is not entirely clear that non-PayPal merchant processors are allowed, at least not for all categories of goods.

            Also if you check here:
            http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policie...ts-policy.html
            • All sellers on eBay.co.uk must offer to accept PayPal. The limited exceptions to this are detailed in the Restricted section below.
            • To make checkout faster, you can log in to your PayPal account on the checkout page. To skip PayPal login altogether, select the tick box that says "Remember me for faster checkout on eBay" on the PayPal login box.
            • Although sellers listing on eBay.ie are currently exempt from this requirement, they must offer PayPal in their listings if they wish them to appear in search on eBay.co.uk.
Credit or debit card provided via PayPal
            • Your payment is safe and secure. You can choose to pay using a debit or credit card, plus you can save your card details to your eBay account or remove it at any time in your My eBay account settings.
These payment methods may be offered in addition to PayPal:
            • Credit or debit card processed the sevialler's merchant account
            • Bank-to-bank transfers (also known as bank wire transfers and bank cash transfers)
            • Payment on collection
            • Cheques
            • Postal orders
            • Online payment services: Allpay.net, cash2india, CertaPay, Checkfree.com, hyperwallet.com, Nochex.com, Ozpay.biz, XOOM

            Restricted
Listings in the following categories may offer any of the payment methods above and are not required to offer PayPal as a payment option:
            • Cars, Motorcycles, Aircraft, Boats, Caravans, Trailers, Trucks (commercials), Services and Property
In some categories, or for some transactions, PayPal may be the only method permitted. If applicable, this will be advised during the listing flow.
it is quite clear that PayPal is mandatory for most categories, but that your own merchant account is allowed IN ADDITION, at least for some categories of goods sold on Ebay-UK
Please read the forum rules before you post.

              4th and 6th paragraph down,

              Accepted Payments Policy

eBay requires all sellers listing on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie to accept PayPal in their listings with the exception of listings in the categories of cars, motorcycles, aircraft, boats, caravans, trailers, trucks (commercials), services and property categories. Sellers listing on eBay.ie are currently exempt from this requirement, but must offer PayPal in their listings if they wish them to appear in search on eBay.co.uk or eBay.ie. In most cases, other additional payments options, which are currently permitted onsite, may also be provided.

Sellers who list in certain categories or transactions may additionally be required to offer PayPal as the only payment method offered on a listing, and this will be messaged accordingly within the listing flows.

PayPal (all sellers must offer PayPal in their listings)

you must offer paypal and link a paypal to UK auctions.

up to £650 received it can be an unverified paypal. over this amount must be a verified paypal. Verified means adding a bank acc. After this point on a verified paypal you have the £1900 limit, and the request to lift this limit usually comes in once you receive approx over £1600. To lift the limit you need to submit documentation.

                  It's a question of semantics.
                  Accepted payments policy

All UK sellers must offer PayPal except in certain categories, which include transportation devices (motor cars, etc.), services and property.

However, UK sellers may additionally offer a variety of other payment methods, including their own merchant credit card processor.

Where it gets tricky, is that if you know how, you may still obey Ebay's rule, sell a ton and yet never fund a single sale on Ebay through PayPal.

You must have a PayPal account in the UK to sell on Ebay

At the moment, you must have a PayPal account in the UK to sell on Ebay, HOWEVER you may additionally have a different merchant account and collect through that as well.

In other words, in the UK you have options, but one of those options for your buyers must be PayPal.
