Google Chrome browser - search function not working

I use Apple exclusively, so I am a big Safari fan. But lately I have been using the Chrome browser and it is VERY fast, so I am using that for my general browsing needs now - made it my default browser on all my MACs.

However, an older version of Firefox with special settings as directed by the Short List is what I use for my Ebay and PayPal needs.

Interesting that lately the search function on the Chrome browser simply doesn't work. Input a search term, and get a blank page and no results.

What is even more interesting is try Googling the words
chrome google search not working
on a different browser, say Safari, and most of the links that come up that include information about the subject of the Chrome browser not working properly, direct to the same google page, which Google groups.

In other words, it seems as if Google is trying deliberately to prevent (and divert to a silly Google home page) searches that lead to information about their browser's not working properly.
