PayPal SS# Request for New Acct

So, I just got asked for last 4 SS# and DOB to confirm my identity when attempting to open a new PayPal account using Short List methods. "The P-atriot Act requires" yadda yadda yadda.

I've never seen this before. Is it new or have I simply been lucky enough to dodge it on previous occasions by chance? I'm assuming any combo of numbers is sufficient here since it's not a request for the full SS#. Thoughts/comments..?

Paypal asking for ss# now - but, PayPal has ALWAYS asked for social security number - Free EBAY, PayPal, Business and Law Forums - Ebay Suspension, PayPal Limited

Any combo of numbers is not sufficient and PayPal will match the SS # against the name, address and date of birth.
