The Short List advises creating HTML based auction listings, which include embedded images. This is essential not just if you are selling VERO items, but for all of your auctions - to make them look professional and credible. You will find that your auctions close at a much higher price if you create professional listings.
For some time now I have advised using imageshack for these embedded images. However, now imageshack, desperate for revenue, is moving to a paid service, and their free accounts are not allowing their free hosted images to be viewed on websites other than on imageshack's website itself. As well, imageshack is experiencing technical problems with resizing images when hosting them. In short, imageshack is not a viable alternative for me any longer.

The bottom two seem to be too bare bones and have some problems when trying to upload images or resize them. I have not tried imgur yet, but it does not offer unlimited hosting for free accounts. The first one, "free-image-uploader" is great, but has so many features (even advanced image editing!) that it is a little too slow to use for the rapid image hosting that we need for this application of simply creating nice images within an Ebay HTML listing.
So far, tinypic works the best for me. Be sure to create a full account, using some email you don't use often (I don't know for sure yet, but as a free service perhaps tinypic leads to your receiving some sponsored emails). Tinypic works well, although occasionally it forces you to watch a few second long ad in between hosting images. Also, tinypic lacks the 280x200 size image resizing, which is a nice midpoint between 160 x 120 thumbnails and 320 x 240. But otherwise, I am abandoning ship with imageshack and moving over to tinypic.
By the way, on a MAC, tinypic doesn't seem to work on the Chrome browser, so I use Safari for tinypic.
