Simon still good for EBAY PayPal? Using Simon - General problems / issues with Simon

EBAY has been asking for c card and bank info for quite some time now.

Simon used to be number one and used to be the best for EBAY! in the U.S. (But...read below.)

Keep in mind thought that Simon is NOT reloadable, and that beginning on the thirteenth month after purchasing, deducts $2.95 per month from your available balance as a service fee.

The billing address CAN be changed on a Simon card 30 days after initial registration.

By the way, if you ever need to have a new Simon card, such as if the card has expired or is lost or stolen, sent to an address other than the registered one, FIRST phone in and change the address to where you want the card sent. Do not ask to have a new card sent at the same time you request the address change, or else Simon will ask you to FAX ID, utility bill and an authorization letter, which is a pain.

Once you have changed the billing address for the card, you may need to wait another 30 days from the address change to have the new card sent, but if providing the above docs is not an option, then at least this gives you a way to get a new card.

Simon now problematic when used to verify an EBAY account

The latest information - Simon (and many other "gift" credit cards), cannot be used for verification on the EBAY side. (This does NOT mean gift cards create any issues for payment of fees - this is for creation of NEW accounts.) What is going on is that Ebay is starting to block out all forms of gift cards when used for address verification of a new EBAY account. However - there is a very simple solution.

When creating a new EBAY account in the U.S.:
Create a PayPal account first. PP still accepts simon and other gift cards for verification, including for the EXPUSE number

If you create your EBAY account properly, and if you do not know EXACTLY how to do this: hire me for tech support to learn how, you should not be asked for a credit card simply when creating the EBAY account. You WILL be asked for some form of verification when you try to SELL using the EBAY account. At that point, simply link to your PayPal account in lieu of attaching a credit card. Linking to your PayPal account is a form of verification that EBAY allows, in lieu of attaching a credit card.

There are SOME prepaid "gift" type gift cards that DO work with EBAY - worldwide! The list of these is included in the short list, part of the tech support on creation of new untraceable/unlinkable EBAY + PayPal accounts.

There has to be another option. I don't want to link my PayPal account. That's one of the reason I have CartManager.

Well, this thread is about simon cards, and this is the only option if you want to use a simon card to verify your EBAY.

Remember we are talking about NEW Ebay accounts - the verification process. Simon and all other gift cards still work fine for payment of Ebay fees.

Ah man... Simon was awesome to use with ebay. Well atleast there are other alternatives.

Recurring / monthly charges will NOT work on a Simon.com card

This is something relatively new - although YES you may use your Simon.com (or physical plastic simon) card to pay your Ebay fees, these cards now automatically decline any recurring/monthly charges EVEN IF you have sufficient balance available on your card.

So, when this happens, you must go in and use the same card for a "one time payment" for your EBay fees.

Simon discontinuing gift accounts after Aug 19

So much for using them to pay fee's. *sigh*.

Will have to just figure out another way although I don't think another virtual CC exists with anywhere near $500 loadable.

You may still purchase and use a physical, plastic Simon gift card with Ebay, at least for payment of fees. The nice thing about these (and all) gift cards now, at least in most states, is that they no longer incur a monthly administrative fee for inactivity.

The Short List does not advise using Simon to verify your Ebay accounts, but a physical, plastic Simon card may be used for verification on at least PayPal. Once your PayPal is verified, Ebay doesn't require the same verification process as if you were trying to start up the Ebay cold without a PayPal.

Just be aware - to get a Simon VISA card, you must purchase online, which means that you must have a physical address to which to ship the card. For most of us, this will not work because the physical address registered to our Ebay and PayPal accounts is not one at which we may receive mail.

However, you may still purchase the Simon AMERICAN EXPRESS (AMEX) gift cards at the Simon booths at malls. In order to use these Simon AMEX gift cards with Ebay and PayPal, you must register a name and address with them for the card. This can be done only by phone 800 331 5479 but once it is done, the card will work fine for our purposes, for PayPal (including for obtaining the EXPUSE number), and at least for paying Ebay fees.

No, Simon is a credit card. You may learn about cards that do what you wish done via tech support, but such cards since they are the equivalent of a bank account fall under anti-money laundering / anti-terrorist laws and require verification of identity and a social security number.
