  • Credit card verification in general - gift cards - for new EBAY accounts

First of all, gift type credit cards may all still be used to PAY your fees on EBAY account. EBAY is not picky about where the money comes from in terms of getting paid!

Also, all gift cards, including Simon, are fine for PayPal, for all purposes.

    However, as noted here:
    http://www.modeeworld.com/forums/for...ues-with-simon
gift cards are starting to be problematic when it comes to verifying EBAY accounts. In the thread above a solution for this is offered.

Another solution of course is to open a bank account, and get a debit card for that bank account. This debit visa or master card can be used to verify any EBAY account directly. Naturally however, you cannot open a bank account in a false address or name. At least, this would not be wise!

But, the AVS used by EBAY and other companies verifies numbers only - not name - so that
    1. The name on the debit credit card (or any other credit card) is not verified.
    2. It is all just numbers to AVS

What this means is that if say your bank account (and corresponding debit card) is attached to a name and address such as
    Joe Blow
    123 Elm Street
    Amherst, MA 01002

Hypothetically speaking, you may provide ANY name and address that includes the numbers 123 and 01002 in it. For example:
    James Atkinson
    123 Jameson Street
    Amherst, MA 01002

would pass AVS the same as the actual name and address.

In some cases EBAY will allow you to add a bank account straight up, to verify the account, and no credit card needed at all. It just depends on how well the account was created, using tech support techniques - a poorly created account will be asked for more verification than a properly created one.

If you don't want to go through all the trouble of opening a new bank account (but...you really need to do this anyway to open a new PayPal), you may also purchase a debit card that requires verification of your identity (via social security # or driver's license). These sorts of debit cards continue to work with EBAY, and you can still use the name and address switcheroo outlined above to satisfy AVS.

Another option is to open a UPS store address, and attach the bank account to that address, and then use that address for your new EBAY account. However, as you will learn if you do tech support, a UPS store address is lower on the totem pole of preference than other options for the address you might want to supply on a new EBAY account.

Prepaid Debit Cards No Longer Work to Verify eBay Sellers Account

    Hey Everyone,

Just set up a new sellers account - went through the usual verification process. Selected Debit/Credit card to pay ebay fees and when I entered the information and tried to confirm it I got an error message stating - "Prepaid cards cannot be used to verify seller accounts".

I was forced to go back and use paypal to pay fees and then I was able to proceed to the phone verification and create the sellers account.

Obviously I do not want to keep my paypal account linked to this ebay account for the fee's - has anybody tried changing the payment method after the sellers account has been verified with paypal under this new system ??

    Thanks in advance.

Assuming you use paypal to verify your seller account can you then remove paypal as your payment method for ebay fees and substitute it with the prepaid debit card at that point ?

I would prefer not to have ebay direct debit my paypal account if possible.

If your EBAY account is using PayPal to collect payments from buyers, then the PP has to be linked to your EBAY. In such cases, even though it may not debit the fees while you offer alternate forms of payment (credit card, etc.), it will inevitably tap your PP account if you do not pay your fees.

Also, you will find that even if you somehow disconnect the link between Ebay and PP for purposes of paying fees, Ebay will reconnect them without your permission.

Does this same AVS loophole work for adding a debit card to Paypal too?

You do not need a loophole to add a card to PayPal, in that PP still allows simon.com and most any gift card.

But if what you meant is - does AVS work the same way on EBAY and PayPal (reading numbers only not letters), the answer is yes.

so if the bank account (and corresponding debit card) is attached to a name and address such as

              Joe Blow
              123 SW 35th Street
              Amherst, MA 01002

the ebay/paypal address would be something like

              James Atkinson
              123 SE 35th Place
              Amherst, MA 01002

the address would have to include both sets of numbers (123 and 35th) to pass right?

is there any benefit from using a legit debit card to verify a paypal account instead of a gift card? it seems like paypal would be less likely to limit if the account is verified with a legitimate bank card.

At this time, PayPal does not care what kind of card you use, nor does their system differentiate between them.

Most AVS systems just check the first digits in the street address. Some also check the numbers in the second line, but for most:

                123 Elm, Suite 1200

would come up the same as

                123 Elm
without the suite #, or even with a different suite #.

Each field in AVS allows only one entry, so a street with more than one number in it would not register more than one field. That is to say, that 123 SE 35th Place would be read as 123 SE Thirty-Fifth Street if you want to look at it that way.

You're making this harder than it is.

There are SOME prepaid "gift" type gift cards that DO work with EBAY - worldwide! The list of these is included in the Short List, part of the tech support on creation of new untraceable/unlinkable EBAY + PayPal accounts.

simon no longer works with ebay. It does, however, work with pp.

Yes, simon is no longer good for EBAY direct verification, but is good for PayPal - as noted at the beginning of this thread. The short list also includes a method to use simon to verify EBAY anyway though.
